“Jake is not just a kid who’s playing,” Bishop Verot coach Phil Dorn said. “He is pretty good. He has a great work ethic about him. He is developing into a good leader.”
Jake Kistel is a dedicated student athlete. His work ethic has been evident from his early years. Academically, he is always near the top of his class. Jake is a member of the National Honor Society and currently maintains a 4.01 GPA. Active in competitive sports, Jake first started in soccer and Little League baseball. As a pitcher, Jake helped the South Ft. Myers Junior All-stars to the Florida State Title in 2007. As quarterback he led his freshman football team to an 8-1 record in the 2007 season and earned the “King Leonidas—Leader on the Field” award. Jake won the starting Varsity QB position in the 2008 season and led that team to a 6-4 record, earning the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year award. Bishop Verot HS petitioned the FHSAA to move up from 2A to 3A level for the 2009-10 school year. Jake challenged his teammates to work hard over the summer in order to be competitive in the tougher district. The hard work paid off with a 7-3 record and a third place finish in the 3A-11 District. Jake threw for over 2,000 yards, the goal he had set for himself before the season began. He was awarded the “Make the Play” award for his Junior season as the team “GO TO” player in critical situations.
Beyond athletics and academics, Jake shows additional dedication by volunteering every summer at Health Park Medical Center in Fort Myers. He has taken piano lessons for six years and received superior ratings in competition. A natural leader, Jake is easy to get along with and has earned the respect of his fellow students and teachers. Jake is a responsible, conscientious young man and will be an asset to any university he chooses to attend.
"We’re not going to be satisfied until we win the World Series," said pitcher-outfielder Jake Kistel.
