Carl Kistel

Jake Kistel will be playing the Final year of his High School Football career in memory of his grandfather and fellow veterans of the “Blackhawks”, 86th Infantry Division, WWII. Carl Kistel was the pioneer of Viking Football. Jake Kistel said, “My grandfather’s efforts along with the sacrifices of his fellow “Blackhawks” and all veterans made it possible for our team to have the opportunity to play football and live free today. After we graduate, we will be going on to our careers. When they graduated they went off to war and risked their lives for us. It seems only fitting to play this season in their memories”.
Kistel ran for two touchdowns and threw one in the 31-21 victory over Westminster Christian. Senior receiver Matt Brewer had eight receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown to break Ross Lane's single-season receptions record for Bishop Verot. Brewer finished about 70 yards short of breaking Lane's yardage record. Kistel scored from 17 yards out late in the third quarter for a 24-7 lead, then found Brewer on a 15-yard hitch pattern with 8:02 left in the game to open a 31-7 edge. Verot's defense, which forced six three-and-outs, gave up two late scores but recorded five sacks in thwarting the Warriors (7-3). "It's a good feeling," senior defensive lineman J.C. Oceant, who had two sacks, said of completing four consecutive winning seasons. "We changed the direction of the Bishop Verot program. I won't be able to touch the high school field again. To be able to go out with a win, that means the world."
